Weekly Prep Thread 1 Jun - 7 Jun
I can't believe it's June already. Didn't SHTF yet? :D
Picked up 4 more 22lr 550 bulk packs. Have over 6,000 rounds of 22lr now. Would love to get up to 10k. Ordered another Ruger Mark III 22/45. This on with a 5.5" barrel in stainless. The first one was a blued 4" barrel. Should be some equivalent parts between the two so they could act as a spare parts set. Ordered another 3 mags for the 22/45's and 2 for the 10/22's. Going today to pick up a couple of more cases of Quart Mason jars and stuff them with some rice and beans I have been meaning to vacuum pack for a couple of weeks. |

Just bought some 'pond' netting from TSC. The net has 1 inch spacing and is very light, so I think it will do the trick. |

Finally picked up my 2, 30lb propane canisters from Wally Word. Got them filled for $22.50 each, paid 44 bucks for the canisters.
Picked up 12 cans of spam on sale at Kroger, along with 30 1 oz canned chicken for $1 each and 10 wolf chili on sale for .70 each. We plan to go back for more chicken and chili before the sale ends tuesday. Waiting on oxy absorbers, buckets, mylar bags, sealer to get here for next big round of sealing. Also ordered 2 more cases of hard red wheat from LDS, And a case of dehydrated hash browns that were on sale at emergency essentials. Other than that, slow week on preps. Took a break and planted more shrubs and plants around the house, most everything is going on sale 50% off at the garden centers. Bought some nice gardenia and camellia. We will see if I can keep them alive. Have to take a break every once in a while, do something nice around the house. Makes the wife happy. Hopefully we will get some fruit trees on the same half off sale next week. But I am done digging holes in hard clay for a few days. |

I ordered a 7.62x39mm G-code Romy AK47 with (6) 30 rounds magazines, bayonet and hard case. Once I get it I'll change the furniture and put a red dot on it.

So far I am just accumulating some PM. I did go on a camping trip and rotated out some of my water bottles. I brought the used bottles back and refilled for future use. Will research sources for food grade 55g barrels and buckets this weekend.

Check out companies that import food stuffs and repackage them. The imports often come in screw top, with rubber "O" ring, food grade plastic 55gal barrels. I have been picking them up for $0 - $10 each. The importers are often glad to just get rid of them.

Kinda boring... I just got another Costco shelf & filled 6 more 5 gallon pails. Four are dehydrated spuds, 2 pasta. Fwiw.

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 1 Jun - 7 Jun
We did another food run at Cash & Carry yesterday. OMG, I couldn't believe some of the prices. On our May trip we picked up 10 2-lb cans of coffee for $3.57 each (on sale). Yesterday the same cans were $7.87! Sign of things to come, I guess. Coffee doesn't grow in the US (except one teensy plantation in Hawaii), so I'm guessing freight and tarriffs are skyrocketing.
Is anyone else noticing drastic price increases? Particularly in imports? We picked up another 50 lbs of beans, more sugar, 10 lbs baking soda, 3 gal. cooking oil, 4 gal. syrup (we love pancakes), and 2 gal each of peanut butter, jam, mayo, mustard, catsup, soy sauce, salsa, vinegar, & mollasses. Then we hit the butcher shop and went nuts on hamburger, roasts, and keilbasa (sp?). Today we hit the state-run liquor store and got a start on our liquor stockpiles (for barter & pleasure). Guess all of the condiments listed above sounds a bit odd, but we've already got quite a stockpile of rice, various beans, dried peas, lentils, dried potatoes, flour, cornmeal, pasta, etc.; plus a pretty good start on canned meats. We figure the condiments will help make our "survival diet" enjoyable. |

Re: Weekly Prep Thread 1 Jun - 7 Jun
Why do you need shelving to stack buckets?

You no like, mang? :D |
Re: Weekly Prep Thread 1 Jun - 7 Jun
Actually, there is utility in getting to a bucket on the bottom without having to unstack. Otherwise, I'd say stack the buckets elsewhere and use the shelves for something more useful. Still an impressive pic though.

Got in a case of Yoder's meat and a case of the canned bacon to complement the Mountain House and Costco/Sams/Kroger stuff. Picked up 500 of the Lithuanian 308 and 100 stripper clips. Finished installing the rain barrel. The garden is coming along nicely but a cat killed my 5 chickens. Got in under the wire somehow. Sad but starting again.
